Electrical Engineers

Electrical engineers work on generating and supplying power, and are often to be found in power stations or generating plants. They help bring power to people in rural areas and to design new ways of generating electricity that will not damage the environment, such as wind turbines. Electrical engineers are increasingly involved in car design, especially those with an electric motor as well as an engine – these are known as hybrids.

Electrical engineers are NOT the people to put new wiring in your house or mend the DVD player when it’s jammed – those are electricians. But there are plenty of opportunities in electrical engineering, both for people who have done their GCSEs and want to earn as they learn (a modern apprenticeship) and for those who want to do a degree.
