The Learning Grid Guide brings together a wide range of events, competitions, short courses and awards for young people from primary school to university. These activities are all related to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and several are included as part of the National Curriculum.
The Guide was first published in 2006 and the 2009 Guide is bigger and better than ever.
- The Guide features the 18 activities that have achieved the Learning Grid "Approved" Quality Standard as at August 2008 and includes a map that shows, at a glance, the Key Stages they are designed for and the level of commitment required to participate - everything from a single day to a whole year's work. A description of the independent Approval Process can be found elsewhere on this web site.
- Quality Standard activities cover every age group and interest and the information given on each one includes the cost, group size, availability across the country and links to the curriculum.
- An Activity calendar gives the timing (with exact dates and venues where known) of regional and national finals, together with national celebrations such as Science and Engineering Week and the Rockingham Festival.
- Sources of Careers Advice are also provided with guidance on engineering and science resources including Flipside magazine, Enginuity and besecenta
