Quality standard activity: Primary Engineer
Based on a idea by David Jinks, the first individual winner of the Jerwood Award for "an original and significant contribution to the theory and practice of education in the UK", the Primary Engineer programme offers primary school teachers in-service training at specialist secondary schools, covering essential aspects of Design and Technology such as Structures, Mechanisms and Basic Electrics.
The training is supplemented by a full set of learning materials that include workbooks, printable materials on CD-ROM and interactive whiteboard presentations and games.
Primary Engineer provides a secondary school with a complete design and technology/engineering primary liaison programme that aims to develop the designing and making skills of children in key stages 1 and 2.
